Once a year the best pointing dogs gather up for a trial to prove who the top dog of the year is. This year competitors ascended to trial grounds nestled high in the mountains near Woodland Park, CO. The rolling hills, thin air, and challenging cover proved to be an intense task for these top dogs. The trial began with a qualifying round. Each dog was paired with a brace mate and the days top 50% scores would move on to the next round; the top three pointing dogs were recognized for their performance. 3x CH Black Forest Star at age 10 (and one of the eldest dogs in the running), put on an impressive show winning first place! Black Forest Star was bred and trained by Start to Finish Bird Dog Training, she is owned and handled by Mark Pace.

Star Wins the Qualifier

The action did not stop with Stars’ big win. Each round only the very best dogs advanced, and each round Black Forest German Shorthairs moved on. Through several more rounds of very tough competition something incredible happened. Black Forest Sam and Black Forest Libby owned by Don and Chris Cooperrider advanced to the final hour. Black Forest Aspen’s Last Chance secured third place. The final round is normally a grueling final test to prove which dog is truly the best, however this day the final round was a victory lap for the Cooperrider family and Start to Finish Bird Dog Training. After a very long weekend Black Forest German Shorthairs walked away with all three top spots. This rare feat will serve as a testament to the quality of our breeding and training. We are truly humbled and grateful for these wins. Congratulations to the Cooperrider family!
